What's the weekend without a little work? Holidays just aren't the same when you're working on the side. Monday's Memorial Day just becomes a nice day to knock out a to-do list before you can add any more to it, that and shopping with your lovely boyfriend for golf clothes at Macy's (yuch! what a depressing department store with clothes and hangers all over the lint infested beige rugs!)
But I did take the best digital photos I could of my new jewelry pouches in three colors - pink, purple and periwinkle, and uploaded them to the website, revised the site, added an Order page, even though I have no shopping cart to speak of and cannot begin to think of what's involved (bank accounts, Ticketmaster, who knows), not to mention the employer identification number (ein) I finally applied for and got, but now need the special tax exempt number so that I don't have to pay taxes on fabric that I'm going to resell as clothing and accessories.
Once I uploaded the pictures to make the site semi decent, I emailed an online boutique, GirlShop, after seeing them featured on Daily Candy (I'm being quite responsive to those little daily emails these days, but I do love my hair cut, so I advise all of you to either a. respond to Daily Candy things and/or b. go to Joe at Alice Band at 27th and 5th in New York - quite worth the $275 (eek! bye bye birthday money!) for the cut and half-head of highlights).
At any rate, fingers crossed that GirlShop will have some favorable response to me. They carry new designers, some of which sell handcrafted things. This week's project: finding a manufacturer. I work with a great seamstress, but I need the steadiness of someone who works in one shop, with the same workers, with the same hours, who's off Memorial Day, that kind of thing. I've gone from working with a bridal seamstress, to a seamstress from the back of a SoHo store, and now I'm ready to transition into a shop of some kind. Wish me luck. Oh, and happy Monday!
