Hunt for the Wedding Shoes : Betsey Johson Finds

Shockingly, I've been forgetting to dream about the wedding shoes. Of course, they have to be super cute, and probably with some color. I have a pair of red patent leather maryjane heels here the apartment, which if I get really stuck, or want an extra special ($$) wedding band, I could do.

So. During this summer evening thunderstorm, which is preventing me from walking out to pick up a to-go burger, I have begun searching at Zappos.com:

Wedding Shoe Requirements:
2"-3" heel
No kitten heel. I trip in those every time!
Color, but if something is smashingly cream, that's ok. Dress is cream.
No pointy heel. We'll be in the grass, so a pointy heel will sink!

Betsey Johnson finds:

John Fluvog

I could replace these laces with tulle!

john fluvog red pump maryjane

Ok, not a shoe, but this bag is very to die for.
john fluvog red black leather bag

What else? What other brands should I look at??

My Sad Closet Life

My Sad Closet Life, originally uploaded by KT Flicker.

I'm sticking firm to the fact that it has taken me almost 3 years to find a shoe organizer that works in this tiny joke of a closet that every now and then sprinkles white plaster all over my clothes because of the ongoing dampness in the ceiling that gets repaired at least every year. Shoe Lover was shocked to see how my shoes overtook me, and literally sent me clear shoe boxes on the spot. So you better believe I bought this shoe organizer from Delight.com the minute it arrived in my inbox. Not only did I buy it immediately, but I bought it from my iPhone while standing in line at the bank to make a deposit. Yeah.

Moon Boots!

moon boots at free peopleIt's not like moon boots were the best looking boot, but I did love mine, as metallic-white-with-a-skier as they were. I wore them to my first day of kindergarten as a new kid from Syracuse, NY to Cleveland, OH. I don't remember wearing them on that particular day, but a friend who just loved giving me a hard time for some reason did have the vision of me walking into that classroom wearing them. Hey. They were soft and comfortable. Maybe a little clunky to walk in, but I think I'd do it again. But mothers - take note - the other kids are paying attention and your child could be mocked for life.

I was checking out the eclat blog, and saw that she listed the Free People blog on her blog, so I visited, and saw their 'jogging boots' that look an awful lot like moon boots. Coincidence? There are no coincidences in fashion. Here is the website for the real Moon Boot. But they don't look as fun or forgiving as the ones I had in kindergarten.

Ok, for the record, Moon Boot is in Wikipedia, and Jon Heder did wear them in Napolian Dynomite, as did Aubree Miller in Ewoks. I should really be paying my bills and not Googling Moon Boot. Here are a whole bunch of moon boots on ebay.

purple vintage moon bootsOh, and here are some now vintage moon boots like my mom used to have, and I coveted them. Coveted. But I think her heel was higher. Or at least it was to me.

StyleHive Shoe Face-Off with Widgets

Inspired by Danielle's little revenge on me for showing these Camper boots, and fueled by my white wine induced enthusiasm during a Patty Griffin concert last night in Central Park, I've created a new game for us to torture ourselves with our favorite shoes that we're not buying - yet.

Here's mine:

Here's how it will work:
1. We will go into StyleHive and create accounts (if you haven't already)
2. Drag the little 'bookmarklet' into our toolbars, and start hiving our favorite shoes.
3. We will tag them "mista shoe faves" to be sure we're widgetting just the shoes we want (b/c if you use "shoes" then you'll get all the shoes you tagged shoes...make sense?)
4. Then click on My Tools and grab the widget for them so that they can all display on this post. You'll email me the code for the widget (copy and paste it into the email), and I'll post it here with a link back to your blog/website if you've got one. I hope people will play! It's a nice way to unwind between computer projects...

Fascinated with StyleHive

I've taken the dive into StyleHive. Whee! Between StyleHive and StumbleUpon, why, I don't know when I'll ever work! But it's fun finding things and sharing them with the world. So I put together a little StyleHive slide show of some Camper shoes I like. I couldn't get them right from Camper b/c of how the Camper site is built, so I had to go to Zappos and Amazon.

And see how Camper is wearing the boots I liked before. With socks. Click on this link, but I don't know how long this runway walk will be on here:

Walking Shoes for Paris - Check

I was in Union Square today for a client meeting, so I took the opportunity to walk into Shoe Mania, the crazy shoe store where common New Yorkers go on their lunch breaks instead of to a Dillards, for example. And I found a shoe. This was pre Mlle Smith's earlier comments to get a Diesel shoe, which apparently, is all the rage in Paris. But I wanted an artsy shoe no matter what.

I scoped out the Pumas, but I just couldn't bring myself to wear them. The toes are too...nose like for me, and very flat for my high arch. I like a round toe, almost platypus. I scoured everything else, finally finding the Campers, but all Campers were on sale, which meant that the only size left was the size that was out, which did not include my size. Resigning to just go to the Camper store in Soho to shell out $150 (the decorations I saw on these Campers were too cute to resist), I saw a Camper look-alike. See below. Where do you think it's from?

teva! who would have guessed?

Teva! The word Teva was nowhere on the shoe, and I'm not familiar with the hand that is their logo, almost like the hand to ward off the evil eye. And they were so comfortable! Quite padded. I couldn't decide between the red and the dark, mossy green, but a cute German girl convinced me to go with color when in Paris. She bought 3 red shoes this summer, and was so happy because of it. That sounded funny. I usually buy 1 red shoe a summer, and I was due. Not to mention these were $69.99. Not bargain basement, but I needed to get the shoes now so that I could start wearing them around the house and on dog walks to break them in. And I see they were cheaper at Shoe Mania than at Zappos.

teva! who would have guessed?

Um, oh dear. In going to the Camper website to link for this post, I've come across some brown boots that I really don't need...oh dear. Resist. Resist. Consolation: they would not look good with socks, and hose is annoying, and how could you not wear socks in the Fall which is when these boots are for. So, there can be no wearing them, and for that matter buying them. Phew.

Shoes not in at Fluevog Online

This is the second order I've placed on Flueog online. This is the second time that they have called me to tell me that the order is in fact not in stock. Since this happend to me once with the cutest pair of hot pink Mini Mouse heel shoes, you can imagine my attempts to avoid this place of severe shoe denial and dissapointment.

The first time this happened, it really bothered me because something of supreme cuteness was offered, checked out, and then denied to me. But secondly, I was unfamiliar with their billing system. They do not bill until the order ships. Amazon may do that as well, I think, but usually with Amazon, when you place an order, the thing you just bought is in stock. Otherwise, you get a message saying: "This item is no longer in stock from this shipper."

So, not knowing that, I had moved special shoe money into my checking account to cover the splurge, and what happened? I spent the money b/c I was being loosy goosey with my cash, and assumed the money had been credited. Mistas: always keep your eye on your online banking. This is why you really do need a Katie James checkbook cover, to just check off what you've spent, and when the store actually takes it.

When the store called today, and I got huffy. Unfortunately. The first time, they offered me nothing and suggested I come into the store for some big sale. No. I want the sale in my livingroom, thanks. I want the sale to be clickable so that I can go finish washing the dishes or something. This time my huffiness lasted so long, and went through two people because not only did I huff at the first guy who answered the phone, I got home and got a confirmation number for another pair of shoes to another girl, and got extra huffy. I was presented with a discount to numb my huff, and the salesgirl said all of the right understanding things. So now I guess I have to make the great treck down to the lower whatever side and delight myself in trying on shoes. Whew!

Moral of the story? When ordering Fluevog shoes online, call a store first. There are only 6 in the United States. Call the store and let them check around to see if they actually have the shoes, and make sure that some person has not only touched the shoe box, but opened the lid, picked up the shoe and checked to make sure it's your size.

My First Fluevogs - Hopefully

fluevog hepburn white heel shoesIt's sunny here today...and you know what that means. Spending money! I've committed to finally donating to my college, will donate to the Central Park Conservancy again, and just donated to my closet with some crisp white with black stitching Fluevogs, the Hepburn style. This is why signing up for these newsletters is so dangerous. I am prone to buying something when I open them. Last week, I bought David a magnetic golf dart board from Delight.com as a late birthday present (his actual present was very, ahem, expensive sushi dinner with friends, with jugs of sake larger than my head).

Back to the Fluevog shoes. The last time I tried to order shoes from Fluevog's website, that were enormously cute b/c they looked like Mini Mouse shoes, they turned out to be not in my size. But the website took my order. Although I don't think it processed. Needless to say, I don't trust their sizing availability. Also, the shipping takes forever. At least 2 weeks? So fingers crossed. Oh, and these were on sale. That's why I bought them. Although I think I've liked the Hepburn before...
