Poll: Should I get black highlights?

I want "haute hair!". On the Paris trip, one goal is to get a dramatic hair color. Here's what I look like now - blond highlights on a brownish/reddish base that is my own:
black or blond highlights with layers
I was going for the Daphne Guinness look, but am not getting encouragement on it! Rick, my literal rock star hair stylist in Columbus advised me to go with Mocha #5 all over, and I'd like thick, like a 2" blond highlights. But the black could be cool and dramatic...

With black highlights, I would look like this (if I curled my hair)
daphne guinness black highlights

Get them. It's only hair!

i agree with kelly- you can always change it back/cut it off/whatever.

that photo makes the dark parts of your hair look v. dark!

Go for it, however...also important when hitting the parisian streets - do you have some cool, hip, not too american clothes to accompany the hair.
sporty black pants? dress with many scarfs, etc. etc.

also, keep room in your luggage for shoes you'll buy IN PARIS.

The dark parts do look very dark! I know, the lighting is very off, but this can give us an idea of what it could be like darker under perhaps...hmm...

Good point Tiff! I will save room!!

What is the base that you say is your natural color? brownish/red...are you sure? It is only hair, and I have been almost every shade of red, but black highlights would be too much for me even though it is just hair and you can change it. I would rather spend the $ (& Paris is expensive) on shoes, purse, accessory, etc. Think about it!! Courtney

I'm not particularly in favor of the dark streaks. I'd be concerned with it being quite severe which is different than dramatic. Also I think it could take a way from your glow. Could you make them a dark rich golden brown? But if you're just thinking about doing it for Paris that's another story.

Just in time for Halloween.
Daphne looks like a jack o'lantern.
Maybe we will decorate our pumpkin with black ringlets on golden hair.
It works on a pumpkin but your coloring is not the same--unless you want to look like a jack o'lantern.

This is true. I think I'm developing a fascination with hair cuts. The reason I want to do a color in Paris is because I need to get out of the box with my hair. I know i live in New York, so I should have access to these things, but I just don't. That's the motivation.

Oh my. I just saw the jack-o-lantern comment! And the dramatic vs drastic and it affecting my glow. Well, If I was a jack-o-lantern, wouldn't I be glowing? hehe.

But dramatic vs drastic is a good point. Maybe I will go with a rich brown and thick blond...

Hmm...I'm riding the fence on this one. I really like mocha but also like the daring in the black highlights. I've been blond, brunette, and a redhead so I don't see anything wrong with changing it. I am no help. lol.

No highlights for France!!!

:ol

Unless you're getting them for NYC... (Just my two cents: I think highlights are distinctly American, especially the chunky ones.)

(Please don't clobber me...) :ol

Besides, I think your hair is already super pretty...

Oh!! Thanks!

Well, if YOU say no highlights for France, than maybe I should get the in my new little favorite place in New Haven, CT (odd location, but v cute). Maybe I should stick with my American girls who do chunky highlights...

I could always spend the money on a better purse...

I am working on getting something similar but with dark red instead of brown. My appointment is October 9th, good luck!

Ooh, dark red! Wish I could do dark red. I did try red once, and it went orange. But that's because we were using the color of fall trees outside as our inspiration. Then I had to be a bridesmaid in a very purple dress.

Good luck! I'm thinking what's-her-face from Gray's who now has her own show. It will look awesome.
